FabMo

My friend M and I dropped in on a local give-away session run by this upcycling non-profit. In their own words:

FabMo provides unique, high-end materials to artists, teachers, and others for their creative reuse.  These exquisite textiles, wallpapers, tiles, leathers, trims, etc. are from the design world, and are usually not available to you at all except through a designer.  FabMo makes them available on a donation basis, diverting about 70 tons/year of them from their otherwise destination - the landfill!

There were stacks and stacks of fabric samples of all kinds, some yarn and trimmings and leather and small tiles, but we gravitated to the paper table where a volunteer was showing people how to fold little boxes from squares of wallpaper samples. This is a one-handed shot of me working on the creases. You do end up with a sweet little two-part box. I'm not sure what it's for, but we brought paper home to show everyone in our knitting group another craft project.

This session was run by volunteers and very well organized. I think right now this is just a Bay Area thing, but if you're interested check their site.
