Unusually wrapped around the northern horizon, a milky, opalescent haze signals the presence of polar stratospheric clouds, unsurprising after the extremely cold night.

Their extreme altitudes of up to 85 000 feet cause the approaching dawn light to appear earlier than is usual, a beautiful milky glow throwing the Leith skyline into silhouette.
