I enclose photos taken today of the sweatshop conditions in your branch on King's Cross station.

I refer to my complaint of August last and your inadequate response to it, which included a wholly inappropriate offer to buy me off with a £10 Pret Card.

I will now

a) ask Camden Council's environmental health department to investigate my complaint
b) encourage my Fleet Street contacts to probe any behind-the-scenes goings-on at Pret A Manger
c) use social media to publicise my concerns.

CUSTOMER COMPLAINT TO PRET A MANGER
I've just been to your branch on King's Cross station. What an appalling sweatshop. What disrespect you have for your workers. The eight tills are so close that the cashiers literally rub shoulders with each other while their bums almost rub those of the baristas behind them and squeezing through this narrow bum passage in both directions are the shelf-stackers and table-clearers. Hot cups of coffee are passing in all directions putting everyone at risk. You should close this branch immediately and redeploy the staff in your many other London branches until you have redesigned it so that it can cope with the volume of business it does. To keep it open is to sacrifice the health, safety and welfare of your workers in the pursuit of profits. It's pure greed. I would welcome your comments.

Thank you for your email and for your feedback. We are so sorry to hear about your recent visit to our Kings Cross Station shop where you are not a fan of the fact that the shop appears too small for our team to work in.

I've liaised with our Safety team about your feedback and  they have confirmed that the shop is equipped with standard equipment. The shop accident log for the year has been checked and there has been no recorded accidents due to the passage way being too narrow. It is a very busy shop and team do communicate with each other well to arrange ways of working. Please rest assured though that your comments will be considered when the shop is next due for the refurbishment

We do hope this experience won't stop you from visiting us again in the future. We would love to welcome you back with a £10 Pret Card and we hope you'll enjoy your next lunch on us. Kindly send us your address details and we will organise this.
