MEMORIAL

A long walk in Scarborough today with T took me to the Dean Road area to find this monument in the Cemetery.

The inscription states :

. . . In remembrance of the civilians whose lives were lost during the bombardment of Scarborough by German Naval Guns on the morning of December 16th 1914 . . . 18 folk in all.
The German Battlecruisers Von der Tann and Kolberg approached Scarborough and then moved to Whitby, whilst a third ship bombarded Hartlepool further up the coast.

Today I was just impressed by a memorial I had never seen before . . . a pity there is a spelling mistake !
