No Change

George Square, Glasgow

99 years ago on 31 January 1918 Prime Minister David Lloyd George dispatched 12,000 troops, 100 lorries and six tanks to Glasgow to quell mounting industrial unrest caused by striking Red Clydesiders

The climax came when the police charged a huge crowd assembled in George Square, ring leaders were arrested and Red Clydeside was no more.

Tonight in George Square another, probably peaceful, political protest is taking place.
