Building Sn3 and N Worlds

Union Pacific turbine has arrived

Received my brand new N scale UP turbine and had to get it on the track. This is a model from ScaleTrains.com. An unbelievable level of detail - right down to the windshield wipers, grab irons, and total truck detail. And the A unit has a sound decoder that makes the sounds of a diesel for moving the unit in the yards, while the B unit makes the sounds of a jet engine that was used to produce electricity for the trucks once the train was attached and ready to go. Total sounds of the startup, etc. and even the loco horns are correct. The best model in my fleet for sure.

These ran in the late 50's and 60's until the cost of bunker grade fuel oil and high maintenance costs sent them to the scrapper. There are two left - one in a railroad museum in Odgen Utah, and the other in the train museum north of Chicago. Fun stuff. They ran like this - A,B, and a tender full of fuel.

Because of the noise this puppy made they were called the "Big Blow". Very appropriate and I will need to turn Down the column a little- but it does howl.
