EARLY BIRD GETS WORM

Todays target is the  Bartailed Godwit also known as Kuaka ( Limosa lapponica) wonderful world travellers - a New Zealand migrant each year from around Alaska - arriving in Sept/Oct. returning around March.  Radio tracking devices have shown they can travel the migration journey without landing. Most seem to have a stopover or two.  The male ( 39 cm - bill size 8.5cm) is smaller than the female (41cm - bill size 10,5cm). They lose half their body weight during the migration.
My xtra shows the bird in flight.
