We're walking in the Air

At 2.20 a.m. last night it was a truly magical experience gliding across the brightly moonlit, icy Scapa Flow.  The lighthouse at Duncansby Head was a large slowly blinking eye on the southern horizon.  A vast array of navigational lights twinkled at Scapa Pier, Cava, Cantick Head, Lyness Pier, Houton Pier, the Barrel of Butter and the Hoxa Roads and Loan Head.  Seductive swirls of mist formed and dissolved before our eyes.

The Community on Flotta put on its usual high standard of hospitality with a wide selection of food, drink and music available.  A band of very able youngsters, playing only their second gig, provided the reels and quadrilles.

After getting in bed at 2.40 a.m. CMC woke me at 7.40 a.m. (and not with a cup of tea!) to inform me she was going to visit her mother in Hoy and that I had to have the tea ready for 5.40.  And get coal and wood in, by the way the wood needed sorting and cutting.  And clean out the sheep.  And keep Harry, Bibs and Baz entertained.  Baz may be away to the hills.  He mentioned Ben Wyvis but maybe he’s just out Cigs Spotting II.

The snow is getting a slow shift as is this snowman.
