Egyptian Geese: on alert!

I've back blipped yesterday's NHM picture.

Phobias
Cynophobia: fear of dogs
Chinaphobia: fear of geese

I find it interesting that chinaphobia is the fear of geese (or even a single goose); sinophobia is the fear (or dislike) of the country or its people.

Well, geese aren't cynophobic; their fear is quite rational! They are terrified of dogs, but it serves them well. This picture is what it looks like when a very over-excited boxer (dog) gets within eyeshot of them... The dog was racing around and the geese didn't like it at all: the mother (here) was honking like mad, and the goslings couldn't work out whether they were meant to be jumping into the water, or just staying on alert
The mother looks more disturbed in large (her neck feathers are all ruffled, and her eye is wide and glaring!)

I hadn't seen the goslings since Saturday morning, and they have grown SO much; a couple of them have even started to develop their first feathers! I've also uploaded (to Blipfolio) a picture of one of the goslings emerging, drenched, from the water.
