Breakfast with the Lady

8 cardinals showed up for breakfast this AM , and to my surprise one pair didn't seem to mind the big lens being pointed at them . The male and female took turns at the sunflower seeds on the rock, occasionally letting in a junco too.
The surprise of the day was in Ithaca  ( we went cross country skiing at Lime Hollow Nature Center and thence to a few wineries) when 10 v- formations of geese flew over going NORTH! Now , I know the Finger Lakes have a lot of year round geese but  this many coupled with the woodpeckers banging on trees.... this was awfully suspicious for (dare I say it?) signs of coming Spring. It is only February, and in NY this would be weird. Feb used  to be a pretty nasty month around these parts.
The other unusual sight of the day , not as unusual but still not common thing, was the large group of crows hanging out across from Ithaca College on a business rooftops , trees and surrounding field. There were easily close to a thousand. I keep thinking  of The Birds.
