Packing Day 2

Backblip

It was a pretty overwhelming day.  The moving company arrived just after 7 a.m. to get the show on the road.  It was noisy but all very upbeat, lots of banter, laughing and joking by the moving guys.  Overheard:  Hold on, I need to take a minute...  There are so many stairs in this place, I never want to do a job in a house like this again!  I felt sympathy for the guy.  The stairs are something I will definitely not miss from this place.

Once everything was on the truck, all the paperwork signed we got a moment to look at the empty space.  It was funny seeing the house like this again, just like it was when we moved in, empty spaces, echoes.  I am very ready to go but we'll be camping in the house until our stuff arrives in California.  We decided dealing with a hotel for potentially 10+ days with two cats was more than we could deal with plus one of us continuing to juggle with the ongoing demands of a stressful job.

In the late afternoon we took the cats to the vet for their annual check up and to get paperwork done for the flight next week, certificates to show they are up to date on their rabies vaccines, that kind of thing.  We also needed to get Doyle's rear left leg checked out, with the excitement of all the packing materials on Monday night she twanged something and of course we were worried.  A couple of X-rays showed all clear so just an over stretch or bruise of her knee.  She was given a shot of buprenorphine and we were prescribed some NSAIDs that we need to give her for a couple of days - she was out for the count by the time we got her home, poor girl.

We had a new veterinarian at our usual clinic, a really nice guy who'd just moved to Portland from Los Angeles - he fell in love with Naboo, couldn't believe his fur and kept rubbing his face into Naboo's coat, Naboo was not terribly impressed.  We said goodbye and thanks to all the staff at the clinic who have looked after the cats for the past 8 years, the cats got lots of hugs and kisses from all the vet techs.  :-)

With Doyle passed out and safely ensconced in her apple macintosh carrying bag, Naboo in a grump (understandably) after the day's proceedings, hubby sat with them both while I went out to find something for us to eat, this quick blip with my phone camera on NE Broadway on my way.  We of course had endless supplies and preparations for the cats, but nothing for ourselves!

Exhausted.  Hopefully we can catch our breath a bit tomorrow.
