Abstract Thursday - Travel

I have been looking for a large black tile to use as a background for macro. They are as rare as hen's teeth here as a) plain black tiles are not fashionable and  b) square black tiles are not fashionable. The man in our tile shop suggested we try a cabinet maker for an off cut from a cupboard. Hubby found me a piece of thin black MDF at a local shop today and it cost him all of €1.50. It had a few scratches but I took it over to the window to get a better look and saw these lovely abstract patterns made by the sun through the blind. I took it a step further when I saw how the light was travelling through a glass on the window sill and placed a few textured glasses there to get these patterns. When light travels through one medium into another that has a different density and, therefore velocity, the light waves change direction producing refraction . Some of the 'travelling' light will bounce back from a boundary, such as air/glass/air and this reflection will be at the same angle from smooth glass and diffuse or scattered from rough glass. Then there is the air/smooth board/air interface. The lesson endeth here, way short of whatever else is going on there but ties in very loosely my Abstract Thursday - Travel theme.
Soooo, we get all these lovely patterns interacting with each other on my new board which seems like a good investment for €1.50. It is also very light and will travel well with me all over the house.
Image cropped and converted to mono but otherwise SOOC.
