Learning to speak out

My writing table, photographed in an unlit room on a grey day, full of inner light.

1. Left, Fr. Stanley Rother, an 'ordinary' Oklahoma City Catholic priest martyred by a Guatemala death squad. He said, "If I speak out, they will kill me. If I remain silent, what kind of pastor would I be."

2. Right, this morning's work, fruit of the intention to write before anything else. Old eyes need plenty of light to read, but not much to write. Speaking out comes from within. That's where the illumination is.

I feel an urgent need to speak out after hearing the latest thunderous lies voiced by our Commander-in-Tweet at this morning's press conference. He denigrates the press and the judiciary, two elements of our democracy that are crucial in defending us against an overweening, overreaching leader. He lies in the most blatant, outrageous manner, claiming that despite what the press describes as 'chaos' his administration is actually running like clockwork except for the 'bad judges.' I prayed as I listened: Save our country, save our people, save our world!

To understand the power and effectiveness of his propaganda, to begin to inure yourself against it, do please read Donald Trump and the Big Lie Strategy and watch the Scott Adams (creator of Dilbert) video on that page, explaining Trump's masterful hypnosis-based techniques. (Adams, by the way, is being listened to now because he was one of the few who recognized what Trump was accomplishing and predicted that he would win both the nomination and the election.)
