Chagall stained glass windows

Al Saints Church, Tudeley, Kent is the only church in the world to have  all its twelve windows created by Marc Chagall  (1887-1985). Chagall was born near the city of Vitebsk, Belarus.

The windows were comissioned by Henry d'Avigdor-Goldsmid to comemorate his daughter who was tragically killed in a sailing accident in 1963 when she was 21. The original commissioned memorial window is above the alter and is my extra. Sir Henry and Chagall were so pleased by it that Chagall went on to design the remaining eleven windows over the next ten years.

They were made in collaboration  with the glasswork Charles Marq in Reims. The windows were installed between 1967 and 1985.

All Saints is a very small and unassuming church. Its only decoration being these magnificent colourful windows. Unfortunately the church is being re-roofed and some of the exterior scaffolding is affecting the light on the windows.
There was also a tremendous amount of noise from the roofing work which detracted from the peace and solitude of the church.
