St Margarets Church, Hales Norfolk

Went off to Lowestoft to see Mum and Aunty Val, had lunch and a good catch-up.

On the way home we stopped at Hales to go and see this church. 'St Margaret's, with its round tower and thatched roof, is a church from another time, standing in an isolated setting, as if still in its twelfth-century Norman world. The magnificent carved doorway with bands of richly carved patterns zigzags, stars and rosettes over the arch is breathtaking; there is another similar doorway, though less richly carved, in the south wall.' The Churches Conservation Trust

Sadly a builder was busy there, making good some damage caused by mindless cretins...

The extras are of the North and South Doorways amazingly fine after almost 1,000 years of weathering.
