Planting Tephrosia seeds

18th February 2017:

Another Saturday and more Horticulture for the girls.

It is almost impossible to change farming culture in Malawi

We grow wonderful Maize crops without artificial fertiliser, but no one is impressed. It just doesn't seem to sink in, even though millions will continue to starve next year. And its a no brainer: they can have a super corp of Maize, the staple food, by rotation maize and tephrosia.

So we have decided that all our 184 girls should become experts on the use of trphrosia not only as a biological irrigator, an amazing nitrogen fixing plant, but a top class pesticide as a bonus.

Here some girls are seen sowing tephrosia seeds in egg cartons.

Of course they could plant then in the open as well as they grow like weeds.
