ain't misbehavin'

Dunscore Church is being renovated and today the door was unlocked so that more of the pews could be removed. I took the opportunity to go in and document some more of the work-in-progress.

The extra shows one of the pews on its way out. The pews are made of pine, not old oak, but of course for some people they hold memories and sentimental attachment. They were put in during the early years of this century, to the displeasure of some parishioners, as they replaced the old box-style pews. Some of the pews will be kept and put around the outside walls, others will be used as part of the building material for the new servery. Maybe others will find a home in houses around the parish.

At this morning's service (in the village hall) the minister preached a sermon which emphasised that the church is not a building, it is the people who worship inside it.
