Road damage caused by weather

Today I decided to take another photo of the road damage caused by the recent snow melt.  I added an extra of it yesterday and it doesn't look like there's been much more erosion, thankfully.  It does look like the whole section by the white marker might erode, and I think the old stump (probably cedar) below the marker, just where the grass ends, might help to slow that down.  We don't expect this to be completely fixed anytime soon, but as long as we can still get through with one lane traffic, we'll be okay.
Excerpt from our emergency pod person to the island emergency coordinator:  "Apparently a substantial flow of water was seeping from the upland under the substrata of the road bed causing the soil/gravel on the ocean side of the road to fail. The unforrested character of much of the upland area may well have contributed to the level of run-off over and below already saturated soil. As of Friday morning a small volume of water continues to drain from the land above the road in this manner. Should this volume increase due to additional rain further erosion could occur which might affect the current stability of the road substrata (well compacted gravel and sand). Such erosion in combination with a very heavy vehicle could place the roadway at risk of failure. Mainroad has placed barriers along the road edge as the drop off at the edge of the asphalt is about 8-10’ vertical. The repair process will be substantial, likely requiring removal of the sluffed material and stabilization starting at the shoreline given the steepness of the slope."
The weekly theme is Weather, so I'll have to decide between a couple of photos taken this week.  Always good to have a choice.
