Desert Squirrel

Meerkat

First visit to Orana Park this year.  A warm day, and sunny, so I didn't think there was much point in trying to photograph the gorillas.  We did check out the reptiles, though, and found most of them relatively active, but no chance of photos today.  The largest tuatara sat, like a statue, in a totally unsuitable position, so I gave up waiting and looked for something easier.  The meerkats rarely disappoint.

One of the porcupines was shambling about its enclosure, eventually coming to rest with its head firmly hidden from view behind a log.  I did think its feet were a little interesting, though, so have included them as an extra.

It was such a beautiful day today, after such dreary weather since we returned from Stewart Island.  Not so good for firefighting, but it was great for our bike ride.
