It's all relatives

Indu and I flew the no frills airline Tiger from Canberra to Melbourne. It was the first time for both of us and we were pleasantly surprised as we'd been told that it was a carrier known for low prices but high risk and being unreliable.

Guri was waiting to pick us up and from the airport, we went 115km north west to Daylesford, a historic village built around a lake and mineral springs.

Autumn is around the corner. It's in the air which was cool as we went along the 'peace walk' on the edge of the lake with the woods to our left.

On the way back to Guri's place, we picked up a delicious Japanese dinner. His home is spacious, well designed and he had thought of every little detail to make us feel welcome and comfortable.

The three of us watched an interview with an Australian/Jamaican/Guyanese author. Our conversation as it often tends to, turned to race, identity, belonging and how we as a nation are going backwards in Australia. Politicians and the media fuel intolerance. Other multi-cultural societies like New Zealand and Canada are progressing but we are fortifying our country's borders and building walls in our minds to keep difference and diversity at bay. Not only do most people deny there is racism, but when a discourse does emerge it is uninformed, unsophisticated, close minded oversimplified and combative.

We talked until 2am.

I'm so happy we are together.
It's been a long wait.
