Gourmetten

On the first day of christmas we spent time with my boyfriend's family in Dokkum. Though I'm not religious myself, we went to church on christmas eve, which actually was quite nice even though I had been really sceptical beforehand.

Here we are practising the typical Dutch way of festive cooking: Gourmetten. Everyone at the table has his/her own wee little pan, in which one can put little pieces of meat and vegetables and frie it on the 'gourmetstel' (a stove-kind-of-thing) in the middle of the table. Sometimes there is also pancakedough or some omelette-mixture, and of course there are salads and bread to choose from. Dutch people most often go 'gourmetten' at christmas, 'Sinterklaas' and easter. :)
