Bloomin' Doris!

Today didn't work out quite as expected.   Last month our children bought us a voucher for this rather expensive restaurant in Birmingham for our Ruby Wedding.  (Ruby Murray - Curry - rhyming slang)  

It's called Lasan and is listed as one of the top 100 UK restaurants and is Gordon Ramsay's best Indian Restaurant .

However we had decided to combine this special meal with a visit to the Birmingham Royal Ballet so we had booked a matinee to see Prokofiev Cinderella.

We decided to catch the train up to Brum and weren't surprised when there was a 20 minute delay to our train due to the weather.  However it arrived with plenty of time to spare.  After half a dozen stations it stopped in the middle of nowhere (Wythall to be precise) and the guard announced that we wouldn't be going anywhere for a long time as a train had hit a tree and there were four trains backed up ahead of us.  What was particularly annoying was the fact that he knew about this before the train set off and he had apparently made an announcement as the train left Stratford.  However since we joined at Stratford Parkway we were not told.  If we had known about the problem we would have driven up in the car.

Anyway,  we missed the ballet which had cost £70.  We wasted money on train tickets which didn't get us to our destination - not to mention car parking.

We ended up getting a taxi back to Stratford and went back home :-(

We drove up later to enjoy our meal which I have to say was every bit as good as Gordon Ramsey,  Heston Blumenthal,  Robbie Williams and a load of other 'celebs' said it was.
