Day 055/17. Nippers on a Friday

A small adjustment needed to my tripod preparing for a camera expedition tomorrow led me to my collection of small pliers.
My grandad, way back then, perhaps 50 years ago, used to call these nippers. No idea why, and no idea of the origin. Anyone know?
