As Is, Where Is .....

..... the outhouse is out the back! Totally unusable, this toilet is in the outhouse and laundry block, of the historic Grubb Cottage in Lyttelton. John Grubb, a shipbuilder, built the cottage in 1851. The cottage itself is meticulously built, and is charming -well, apart from the above! I loved the internal layout, unusually for the times it was built to the sun, and the surviving wallpapers are delightful.
The Christchurch City Council have taken over the restoration of Grubb Cottage, as it's known as the most significant colonial domestic dwelling in Lyttelton.
The council will have their work cut out with that outhouse! They'll have to stop the borer from holding hands, to start with.
