No Tears Shed

The demolition if one of Edinburgh's most unloved buildings has evoked no tearful protests. The St James Centre replaced a Georgian Square and a Victorian terrace at the end of the 1960s and was almost universally loathed as a brutalist blot on the city skyline.

It is now to be replaced but not all the lessons of the St James Centre appear to have been learned with the proposed centerpiece of the new development an "iconic" hotel already being dubbed "The Golden Turd".
