Slow Progress

It looks like these storks are building this nest by accident rather than design.

It was a beautiful day here and so we went for a walk.  A completely different walk to our normal Frauenstein one but one we hoped we keep us clear of Karneval madness...

And when we arrived in Walluf, it was with some trepidation that we noticed the big sign announcing the Karneval Parade through Walluf that had started half an hour before  we arrived.

It was quite easy to avoid though - just keep walking in the opposite direction to the really loud Schlagermusik.

And it was beautiful outside.  It was warm enough to be out without a jacket and so we were.  It's February and I was warm enough - das ist aber Wahnsinn ("that's nuts" as a translation).

And since we'd been stomping through the wilds for a couple of hours, we stopped in a local pub/restaurant for a restorative drink.

It was a real Zeitreise (trip through time). The women running the place were dressed in costumes (it is Karneval - one was Wilma Flinstone, the other one of the Pink Ladies).

One of the things on the menu was Metzelsuppe - something that G hadn't eaten since childhood and she was given a bowl for free.  The easiest way for me to describe Metzelsuppe is to say that it's a Haggis Soup. It's all those bits that go off quickly chopped up and made into soup - so heart, lungs, liver, kidney and the rest.

Our waitress Wilma was also talking to people about her upcoming holiday.  We know that she is flying off to the Canary Islands for 9 days and she intends to spend them "schlafen, essen & vögeln"

Schlafen is simply "sleeping"

Essen is "eating"

"Vögeln" has nothing, as I thought,  to do with birds or bird watching whatsoever (der Vogel is "the bird, "die Vögel" the birds).  If you've seen the film Cabaret then you might remember "bumsen".  And now your Vocabulary Of Dirty Words is one word larger.

Well, it is Karneval.
