The Old Bridge

Another short (but slightly longer than last week) 'day' in the office, then walked in to Berwick. Had intended only to walk as far as the station but, well, I was ahead of time and feeling OK. A few minutes to spare before the bus was due, so I couldn't resist walking a short distance on to the Royal Tweed Bridge for a few shots of the Berwick Bridge (aka the Old Bridge). I always think that this part of Berwick looks very attractive, even on a rather grey afternoon.

Home to cook the roast dinner we had planned to have yesterday!

'Googled' the Old Bridge to learn a little more about it - here's a potted history, if you're interested -
The current structure of the Old Bridge was built between 1611 and 1624 and, apparently, before the construction of this stone bridge there was a series of wooden bridges across the Tweed. Until 1928 the Old bridge was the main road crossing of the Tweed at Berwick. Then the concrete Royal Tweed Bridge was opened, and in 1984 the A1 River Tweed Bridge opened about a mile west of Berwick, and carries the A1 around the town. Today the Old Bridge is opened one way to traffic, from east to west.
