Into the storm

Arrival in Harare this afternoon.  We skirted a large thunderstorm coming in to land, all quite normal for a summer day in Zimbabwe.

Back in St Petersburg on this date in 1917, a large storm is brewing too, but nothing is normal.  Soldiers in other cities join the revolt, many join the street mob, others just go home, some shoot their officers. Prisoners are freed from jail, police stations are set on fire, as well as images of the Tsar and other tsarist emblems. Members of the parliament, now dissolved, form a Provisional Committee, against the orders of the Tsar, and prepare to take power. The revolt begins to take on the character of a national revolt and is passing the point of no return.
