World Book Day.

I was given this book in December 1965, as a prize or reward for taking daily readings from the  meteorological instruments in the Stevenson Screen on the lawn beside the Lodge at the Dragon School. The inscription notes that this duty was shared with A. Warren.

This delightful book includes chapters on 'Tracing Ancient Britons' (my Dad's short paper on the Allen Knott earthwork, "probably pre-Roman", appeared in the Transactions of the Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archaeological Society the previous year) , 'Churches Pointing to the Sky' (a reference to the Norman church at Kirkby Lonsdale on page 62 is underlined in ink) and the charmingly illustrated 'In Hedge, Wood and Field'.
