Drovers Rest

Before the industrial age, the land at the bottom of Lancashire Hill at the confluence of the Rivers Tame and Mersey in Stockport (near the old Roman Road) was used to rest cattle. Cattle Drovers from Westmoreland, Cumberland and Borderlands drove their cattle down to the market on the other side of the Mersey at Stopford.

Looking at the area now the recent Victorian history (old brick walls and a disused railway bridge) is evident not the over 1,000-year-old usage as a cattle rest. Interesting what's on your doorstep?

The footbridge is over the River Tame with the Lancashire Hill flats in the background. The Electricity Pylon is from my earlier blip
