Pellucid hoverfly

I had so much choice of insect subjects for blipfotos today, and I settled on one of Britain's largest flies, the pellucid hoverfly (Volucella pellucens). Thanks to Craig at Buglife Scotland for helping me to home in the identification from a number of possible candidates. This one was in King's Park in Stirling. This hoverfly species lays its eggs in the burrows of social wasps and bumblebees where their larvae feed on bee/wasp waste products and larvae.
