The Wren

New Zealand's Edinburgh

Another fabulous day where we have been blessed by gorgeous weather showing off the countryside perfectly. Along with my cousin and his wife, who are travelling with us, we picked up a hire car and set off to explore the Otago peninsula where the Albatross nest. On the way we passed many little boathouses, which is what I think this one is, perched on stilts and lovingly decorated with murals of local bird life. The stilts are necessary as the tides here are substantial. We had stopped at this one by chance as we had noticed the tree growing out of the rock with all the roots exposed. Following a fabulous journey round the peninsula, along narrow roads perilously close to the edge, we eventually found our way back into Dunedin which we learned was the original name for Edinburgh. Fascinatingly many of the street names were familiar, sometimes with a quirky twist to them, and there was even a miniature Scott Monument in their Princes Street. All in all another fabulous day in this beautiful country.
