Pacific Madronas

Cynthia was going to the library in Fairhaven this afternoon, and invited me to go with her. I already had a blip, of sorts, but wanted something of more general interest, so I accepted the offer.

After we'd been to the library, C asked me where I would like to go next. I suggested the small wooded area between the Cruise Terminal and the lagoon at the outlet of Padden Creek, where there are Madronas (Arbutus menziesii) and Gary oaks (Quercus garryana).

It was a good choice. We both enjoyed shooting the beautiful colors and shapes of the Madrona trunks with their peeling, papery bark.

I've posted more shots on Flickr.
