Fasciation

This particular willow, in a hedge of perfectly ordinary ones, always has this strange abnormal growth every year.  The stems are flattened, and some are curled, with the buds growing in clumps.  Another shot in extras.  

Some plants are more susceptible to it than others, and willow is apparently one of them.  Weird but interesting . . .
