Colour theory

Today evening started an art course about colour theory. I love colours, I'm sure it will be interesting!  In the photo is a book page of a book that was introduced to us. The picture appealed to me, it is about Wilhelm Ostwald's coloursystem; tints, tones and shades across two colour complements.

Wilhelm Ostwald was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1909 for Chemistry. He also researched colours and constructed a coloursystem. His book The Color Primer (first published in 1916) is considered one of the most widely published books on the subject of colour theory. Ostwald bases his system on human perception of colour values of hue, saturation and brightness, all arranged in a three dimensional shape. His system includes a colour notation system to give each colour in the solid an exact code.
