Burj Al Arab and a Parrot!

We've had a much more relaxing day today - didn't get up until nearly 10am, then popped downstairs for breakfast, after which we got a taxi to the Madinat Jumeirah.

The Madinat is a seaside resort comprising 4 luxury hotels, summerhouses and villas backing onto a series of sea water canals. Apparently there are a few 'Royal Villas' that have 4 bedrooms and a private swimming pool and cost £10,000 per night!

We took another Abra ride around the waterways then had lunch at a Persian restaurant.  Our table was at the edge of the water and we had a view of the Burj Al Arab, which I planned to Blip today.  However, we were joined by this parakeet who we've called 'Anar'.

Anar is the name of the restaurant and means 'pomegranate'.  Apparently he's a regular visitor and he loves walnuts and pomegranate seeds, so the name works well.  When he landed on our table he nibbled at our bread and aubergine dip, but he didn't like it, so our waitress went to get a walnut.  He was thoroughly enjoying it until a seagull tried to get his nut.  He grabbed it quick and flew off and luckily I was poised with my phone so managed to get this shot.

After lunch we walked to the public beach at the other side of Burj Al Arab.  I hoped to get a shot with the sun going down but we were an hour early so decided to head back to the marina.

We got a taxi to the JBR beach walk, saw the sun set, had a drink and macarons at Ladurée, and then came back to the hotel where we're finishing off our duty free wine.

Anyway I need to go and pack as we head home tomorrow.

I've added a few extras if you fancy a look .
