An Avid Lensman

The Walking Madonna at 'Dawn'

An alternative view, at 6.04 a.m.

Salisbury Cathedral's warm interior lights were already on and as well doing the usual ultrawide shots, with the looming shape and spire up into the mist.

I originally tried the long end (minus a few mm) of the Sigma Contemporary 17-70mm f2.8-4, but the very bright lamp just flared terribly. Clean the lens' front element and no improvement. Tried wide open, stopped down, all sorts, all rather bad.

Had the same maker's much older but EX ("pro" range) with a much larger front element in the rucksack and after the fuss of putting the tripod collar on the 70-200mm f2.8 Mk 2 Apo and immediately the flare magically all but disappeared!

By this time, I only had a few minutes to utilise the ideal balance between the brightening ambient light (and that gorgeous purply mauve) and the outside lights, which could switch off any time soon.

Looks like another dull 'un, so am glad to get a pleasing Blip early on.

Good weekend everyone!
