Mackerels Plain

Fungus shot taken at  Mackerels Plain today; the scene of yesterday's NIMBY residents,  offering free entry into the event to smooth things over. One family took me up on the offer and another gave me the history of their hamlet's name.  Apparently there was a mackerel gutting operation, years ago, for the fishermen bringing their fish from Hastings and Rye to London. Rumour also has it that  the fishermen carried the mail in their carts and the letters arrived reeking of fish. The cottages retain their fishy origin eg Mackerels Cottage although it now carries  a fancy South East price tag according to Right Move.
