Kilmory Wood Sculpture.

A beautiful day today , we went for a wander around Kilmory Wood which has so many different features to enjoy.
This sculpture has been a special favourite of ours and has survived the harsh winters now for 14 years and , unlike so many other sculptures around Britain , has also survived without any vandalism.

The following info can be read on a plaque standing near the tree;

In 1998 a large monkey tree which stood near the visitor's car park between Kilmory Wood and Kilmory Castle ( our Argyll & Bute Council Offices ) . Unfortunately the tree became dangerously rotten and had to be felled. As it was a much loved tree it was decided to mark its passing with a sculpture. Two local primary schools took up the challenge to design a sculpture and Duncan Gillies was commisioned to turn the sculpture design into reality.

Lovely to see that people do care isn't it?
