Growing old disgracefully

By GOD

SPECIAL DAY

Not because of any political speech, but because it was the first day this year when it was warm enough to have coffee in the garden - a welcome break from some hard work in the veg patch.

I had my annual Rabbie Burns moment when I emptied one of our compost bins. Mice nest there and I hate disturbing them.  Their frenzied leaping into the air and 'bickering brattle' through the hawthorn hedge makes me feel so cruel.  In this, as all things, context is king.  I feel quite murderous when they invade the kitchen cupboards.

Later, a trip to Largs for a blether with a pal and, of course, an ice-cream.
