Searching for E.T. and more

Seti@Home was the first distributed-computing project that caught my attention (back in 1999). As a useful screensaver, it uses idle time on your computer to process information packets. In this case, it scans for anomalies in signals from space to see if there might be something artificial such as radio. Distributed computing is now a huge thing and there are hundreds - if not thousands - of ways to use processing time to do other things like find cures for cancer or the zika virus or to crunch numbers looking for answers to complex math or physics questions.
