Cellarium

l had a lovely day today visiting the house at Mottisfont.  It was a stunning, warm day for walking in the gardens and the spring flowers were abundant.  There is a magnificent room decorated by Rex Whistler and also an exhibition of his work which was fascinating.  This picture is of the Cellarium which acted as the food store for the Abbey and it was indeed nicely cool in there today (and there were some spectacular green moulds growing on the walls in places!)
The extra is off the house across the front lawn and stream.. it was a nice house to visit.. very homely... my one gripe was the rather dull selection of food offered by the National Trust cafe/restaurant there.  For someone who can eat no wheat.. ie no sandwiches and cake there was only lentil soup or a baked potato on offer (both felt rather solid for such a pretty spring day) or flapjack... come on NT you can do better than that!!!
