Goya in el Prado

When I visited the Prado the other week, I bought some postcards of some of my favourites — all Goya. I remembered Saturn eating his children, but I didn't recall the poor drowning dog. The two cats fighting was part of a new display of cartoons Goya did for tapestries.

When I visited the Royal Palace earlier in the week, I read a notice saying there was a tapestry by Goya, but none looked consistent with what I thought was his only style (the aforementioned Black Paintings) — his earlier work was the usual religious scenes and portraits.

When I saw the display of his tapestry cartoons in the Prado, I was excited to recognise them from the Royal Palace — switched left to right for reasons best known to needlework.

Goya did a seasonal series, and I loved the summer one in the palace — it was such a fun picture — and to see Goya's original was even better.
