Million Dollar Quartet.
Tonight I went to see 'The Million Dollar Quartet' in Southend.
The play is fundamentally about Sam Phillips who founded 'Sun Records' and discovered many artistes who went on to become huge stars.
The play is the story of the day 4 of his biggest stars were together in the studio and jammed on a few numbers.
These stars (complete unknowns before Sam Phillips took a chance on them) were Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis.
At the end of the play the 4 actors posed by the piano for a photo. The stage went dark...and this iconic photo, taken on that actual day in 1956 came down.
Sam Phillips was played by Jason Donovan who was very good in the part.
