Wy'East and Synclines

A stunningly beautiful day today. We went hiking at Catherine Creek. It is known for its diversity and duration of wildflowers in the Gorge. The wildflower season begins here quite early, and there were plenty of people at the trailhead. Fortunately, there are four trails, so the crowds thinned out fairly soon.

This view is looking southwest into Oregon at Mt. Hood (Wy'East). The folds on the hillside are called synclines seen on the right side of the photo.

The soil in this area is very poor so grass doesn't grow well, and this allows for a myriad of wildflowers to flourish. Today we saw meadows of Grass Widows, and I have posted a photo of these in the extra.
