Milnthorpe Steel Band

After yesterday's rain the weekend was going to be a dirty one!
Today we were running the Lakeland Trails Cartmel Trails and were promised mud. I'd originally planned to do the 18k one but decided it would be foolish to try only a few days after finishing the treatment so I was able to drop to the 10k. This turned out to be 8k of mud, 1k of puddles and 1k of road - with a optional ford near the end which did remove the worst of the mud from the rest of the course.
The rain eased off, as did the wind, and I had a great time getting filthy and ran more quickly that I expected and finished within the top 2/3.
Mr Rat ran the long one, having marshalled for mine, and while he was doing that I got more muddy removing the timing chips from ankles.
Entertainment was provided by the above band and by a singer/songwriter/runner and for once we came away with no prizes, though that's not what we go for.
Once finished we drove north to Keswick to stay with Mum for a couple of days, nice to see her again after her recent health problems.
