Mono-Monday: Community

In the Metropolitan D.C. area, we live and die by the traffic reports.  For many of us in traffic-plagued large cities, the best thing since sliced bread is the phone app “WAZE.”   We were first told about this app 5 years ago by our youngest son who was attending law school in Los Angeles.  He didn’t drive to the corner without using it and now we are pretty much the same.  The virtual COMMUNITY of WAZE members report traffic problems on their phones in real time and the program reroutes accordingly.  For my husband this is the only kind of social media in which he will participate, and he feels pretty pleased with himself when he gets multiple “thank yous” from his local Waze community for reporting a traffic incident.   When we first started using it, we used to doubt its accuracy when it tried to reroute us, and we would reject its suggested route only to find ourselves stuck in miserable traffic.  We no longer doubt WAZE; it is always right.
