Mattie

We said farewell to my mother in law Mattie today in a beautiful service in the church in Anderston where she was baptised, took her first communion and was married.

So grateful to so many people for their love and support over recent weeks and today. Family, friends, neighbours, colleagues, plus those in the NHS who cared for her so well in her final days.

As ever in these occasions, a day of extremes. Life and death, sorrow and joy, celebration and commiseration. The deepest despair but the restrengthening of bonds side by side.

Mattie - know how beloved you are and always will be. Know that we will care for Alastair and care for each other. The "boys" from the golf club have already made plans...

And be so proud of your wonderful children - two fine sons and a daughter who carried themselves and their Dad with grace and loving dignity today.

I'm filled with such gratitude that one of your fine boys is my fine man - and what a beautiful one he is.

Go well my lovely. Go well x
