Barbizon

The small town of Barbizon became the locus of what came to be called the Barbizon school of painting in the 19th century. It's an hour south of Paris, and our friends Annick and Thierry took us on an expedition today to visit it.  We strolled mainly along the long main street, which you see in two views here, including an excellent lunch and a visit to the main museum, located in what was the Hotel Ganne, where many of the artists gathered from the 1830s. The weather gods smiled on us, and it was altogether a thoroughly enjoyable day.
