Bendigo Post Office

We went to Bendigo today to meet up with a nephew who is visiting from Western Australia.  While waiting for him, I took this pic of the Bendigo Post Office, which was right opposite where we were waiting on Pall Mall (yes, I know, but we were the colonies).  This was built 1883-1887 during the opulence of the gold rush, when Bendigo was awash with the proceeds of prospecting. The clocktower houses a 5 bell carillon and as we listened to the midday Westminster chimes, decided it was more than a little out of tune! Still, the history is what grabs one.
